Most of the time when I am using the backspace key on a web page, it will take me back to the previous page, but at the top, not where I left off reading. Every once in a while it will take me back to the exact spot where I was reading on the previous page. I find this much handier. I'd like to know if there is a way to get it to do this all the time. Thanks!

You know, it's funny - i've been surfing the net since it's conception, and I had no idea that you could go back a page with backspace. You learn something new everyday, apparently. While I wasn't able to find exactly what you were asking for, you might check out my google search, and see if that gives you any leads. Apparently a lot of people like to disable this feature.

I didn't know either, but anyway. What happens when you back space is your browser sometimes automatically refreshes the page as if it is new. Therefore you do not get the original content at all.

I prefer using ALT + left/right arrow for going backwards and foward through web pages. I love keyboard shortcuts in general. Sorry, no idea how to get your browser to always go back to where you left it. Mine usually does. Sometimes it doesn't when I try and scroll before it finishes loading the page.

I love keyboard shortcuts too, but I don't know very many. Thanks for sharing another one. I will try to be more patient when it is loading the page and will see if that works. It just seemed odd to me that sometimes it did go back to just where I was, but usually it didn't.

I wasn’t going to post here, because the OP didn’t ask for keyboard shortcuts, but since they have been requested…. Figment gave most of my favorites, but here are a few I use that weren’t included in his list: Windows (the key with the flag)+E (opens up Windows Explorer) Windows+D (mimizes programs and shows desktop) In MS Word: Ctrl+Alt+1, 2, 3, or 4 (makes the line a section heading style) Ctrl+S save Ctrl+A (select all) Ctrl+C (copy) Ctrl+X (cut) Ctrl+V (paste) Ctrl+N (opens up a new document) Ctrl+L, E, R (aligns your cursor to the left, center, and right, respectively) Ctrl+P (print) Ctrl+D saves a bookmark Alt+F4 closes program (but be careful if you keep it pressed down you can shut down more than one… ) Now I’m cheating here but I can’t seem to stop myself Ctrl+Shft+V (opens up xNeat clipboard manager which lets me paste several different clips onto a document, not just the last one) Ctrl key twice (opens up Google Desktop search) Ctrl+spacebar (opens up Launchy, which lets me open up almost any progam/folder in my computer) I do like these shortcuts. Between Google Desktop and Launchy I can get to files much quicker than moving my hands off the keyboard to work the mouse, dragging the cursor to the Desktop icon, clicking My Documents, etc. After a few days with it I deleted my desktop icons and quick launch bar as well. Edit: OK now I'm really cheating If you have sites you commonly go to, in Firefox you can bookmark them and then give them keywords... right-click the bookmark and select Properties. In the keyword field insert text. Next time you want to go to that bookmarked site, just type in the keyword and FF will take you there. For example, "Gmail" is keyworded with g, forums.crossdaily" is keyworded with fc, etc.

ORIGINAL: psaulm119 Windows (the key with the flag)+E (opens up Windows Explorer) Windows+D (mimizes programs and shows desktop) On that note: Windows + M : Minimize all (similar to show desktop) Windows + Shift + M : Undo Minimize all (will also undo Win + D) Win + F : Opens Windows Search feature Win + Pause/Break : Opens the System control Panel Vista only (I think): Win + 1 - 9 : Open icons in the quick launch area of the taskbar. In most programs: Alt + Space : Brings up a menu with Move, Size, Minimize, Maximize, Restore and Close commands. (The Same menu you get if you click the upper left corner of a window.)
