ORIGINAL: MissGizmo Last night I went to a really great concert about 5 miles from my home. It opend with a local group which have the talent to go big time, but they feel led to just stay as they are. The Shepard's Staff is a group you should go to listen to if you ever have the chance. They are a very talented trio of 3 men who love the lord & want to serve him. I have heard them to whole concert's locally or open for some big groups also. The Skyline Boys were next on the program. They also did a great job with their part of the program. The boys were relaxed & just blended their music together very well. They were not worried about a program, but they wanted God to be the center of the program, & He was. When they were through they gave an invitation to any that had any need that they wanted prayer for. It is so good to see an alter call given at these concerts. Keep up the good works. Both groups asked people to pray for our nation & GO VOTE on Tuesday. I saw them a week ago and REALLY enjoyed them, too.

We saw The Old Paths last night. It wasn't a full concert, but rather TOP was part of the Sunday evening worship service. Doug gave his testimony and it was great. I had heard a shorter version on their "Live" DVD. Trent is coming right along as their bass, and of course, Tim and Doug were excellent. And Jeremy Peace blew our socks off with his rendition of "Look For Me At Jesus' Feet."

Dove Brothers - Friday night - Buchanan, GA.....It was a great concert. They started a little slower than usual but ended up full speed ahead. Ended with Get Away Jordon and Didn't It Rain. I don't think there is any group out there that can do the songs better than the Dove Brothers. They brought both these songs back to the forefront. The crowd wasn't very good probably due to halloween. Church had all kinds of refreshments following the concert. Every kind of homemade cookie you might think of. ummmm........ummmmm............good.

I enjoyed a wonderful weekend of Southern Gospel Music this past weekend! Saturday evening, I attended a concert at the Blue Gate Theater in Shipshewana, IN with Karen Peck and New River and Palmetto State! WOW! It was awesome! Both groups sang about 45 minutes. KPNR sang a lot of both new and older songs, a great mix. It's always great to hear them, and they do not come up into this area very often, definitely worth it! I had not heard Palmetto State in quite a while, but I was truly impressed! They also sang some favorites along with some newer songs. I would most certainly go to hear them again, if I had the opportunity. Sunday evening was Tribute Quartet up in Nashville, MI. This concert was fantastic! They truly sound better every time I hear them! Their blend is incredible. This was the first full-length concert I've heard with Brian as their tenor and WOW, what a great addition to this quartet! He can sing some tenor! And, watch out bass singers, Dennis just gets better and better with his bass singing all the time! This church has concerts periodically, and the pastor gives the groups just slightly over an hour. The hour flew by! They sang songs from both of their CD's and Josh played a couple numbers. Having known Gary and Josh since their time with The Wilburns, I can not say it enough that I am excited for all of them! I'm looking forward to hearing them again in December.

I went to see Gordon Mote. He was awesome. The Webbs were also there and I didn't think I was going to like them from what I have seen of them on tv. But actually, they were really very good.

I post in the Diplomats thread, but we went to their concert last night. As most of you know Joe is in the hospital and they need a bass singer to fill in for Joe. Kevin Cook, used to sing bass for them, filled in for Joe. He did an outstanding job. They had a very good program last night and it was well attended. Joe had a heart cath late Friday evening and everything look fine. PTL. He should be back on the road with them next week, but in the meantime Kevin will be filling in.

I went last night to see Driven. This was the first time I had heard them & really did not know what to expect. It was a great God filled concert. Before the midle of the concert the boys were lead to offer an alter call. No longer than the first verse of the song they sang as an invitsation when a young lady & her Mother came down the aisle. The Mother had become a christian at a revival that Driven had sung at 2 weeks before. Her daughter wanted to become a christian last night & could not get to the alter fast enough. Church broke out at that time. It sure made everyone's night. As to their music, it was alot of older but goodies that we do not hear much of lately. They also had new songs mixed into what they were singing. Their bass singer said he was sick ,but you would have never known by the performace he turned in. They all have a good, fun filled time, doing what the Lord has given them to do while on the stage. It is all done to honnor the Lord, & you can tell that with no problem. In closing I will go & see them again & know I will be blessed.

Sounds great, Ruth. I've only gotten to see Driven one time and they were singing without their bass that weekend because of some showers and his upcoming wedding.

Friday night was a touch of Heaven, as we enjoyed our friends The Diplomats at New Georgia Church in Dallas, GA. It was good to see Robert & Mrs. Carol there. They are sweet people. He's already filled you in about how good that singing was. Then, Last night, Foster & Mom and I went up to Rock Springs, GA (near Chattanooga) to The Greesons' Homecoming Weekend. It has been quite some time since I've been in such a spiritual service. They had a surprise guest group William Clayton & Redeemed, to kick off the night with a few songs. They are a high energy, black group that is reminiscent of the Charles Johnson & The Revivers version that included the Luster Brothers. Musically, they also kinda remind you of The Gospel Enforcers. Then a local group performed a few minutes. But, Buddy, after that, it was ON! The Greesons hit the stage, and what I mean to tell you is that The Spirit some kind of fell in that place. People were shouting and running, and worshipping and crying and shouting some more! They sang all their best songs, and of course ended with their signature song, "Coming After Me". Just when you thought The Spirit couldn't get any more real... it did! I think I might've taken a little spell myself. When things got settled down enough for the emcee to bring on the next group, I tell you, that old-fashioned CampMeeting Spirit hit again. Mama Cooke & all her young'uns & Brother Hubert just took us on up another notch toward The Heavenlies. My, My, My. They have been singing almost 50 years, but they can STILL put it out there with the best of 'em. By the time they were done, they had encored "Victory Is Sweet" about 5 or 6 times, and people were STILL lettin' it rip. Matter of fact, I can't even talk today. Made leading the worship service today at Sharon kinda hard today, but we got through it. Speaking of Sharon, we're having a concert tonight with The Homeland Boys. We're expecting a mighty move of God again tonight. I don't know if I can stand it, but I can't wait!!

Good Videos Dinana. Cornerstone is a great Southern Baptist Church. I don't know how they have so many good groups there. Think they have great financial support from the community businesses. They have major groups every month. Up until about two years ago they always had the Booth Brothers there just before Christmas. It was usually their last stop on the way home to Flordia for their break. Now that they have moved to Nashville they don't have them.

It looks like that church has a concert every month. They gave out a program that did have sponsorships from a lot of local businesses. They're having Karen Peck in December and the Dixie Echoes in January.

I finally have time to write a review on the concerts i attended this weekend I attended and helped promote FALL FEST 08 in madison, florida It was the first time this event was held. Fall Fest was a three night event of pure southern gospel music. The groups were a mix of regional and full time groups I will give a quick review of the evenings performances Thursday Lineup- Stephen Jones, Southern Joy, and The Old Paths Qt Opening the concert was Stephens Jones. Stephen is a soloist from lake city. He did a mix of some popular songs and originals off of his latest 2 cds. He is a young man that really has a passion for music and ministry. www.stephenjones.org Southern Joy- I've written about SJ before, but they keep getting better and better. They are the 2006 NQC talent contest winners and it shows. SJ is a family trio that is making a good name for themselves. The group consists of dad- Junior Combs and children, Jessica and Wesley Combs. If you enjoy great family HIGH family harmony you'll love this group. They sang orignal songs off of their latest project and some familiar tunes. They are a crowd favorite for sure. www.southernjoy.org The Old Paths - The featured group thursday night was none other than THE OLD PATHS QT. The audience loved these guys. Awesome evening of songs off of the "today" project plus alot of other favorites thrown in. I'm sure they made a lot of new fans that night. The new bass singer will be really good, i heard a lot of the crowd say "he's good". Doug's testimony was a highlight of the night. While i can't remember their entire set list, i must say that one of the highlights of the night was "Boundless Love". Just four guys and the piano. (the full band was not there because the bass player was not with them thursday night) It was so good that they had to the song about 5 times. Each time, jeremy peace got higher and higher. The promoter friend of mine turned to me and said "do you think he's gonna go higher?" Of course he did haha. After the concert, a lot of the concert goers came back and said how much they loved the old paths. wwwtheoldpathsonline.com some of the Songs that the old paths sang: "OH, bless his name", "From the cross to the lost", Somebody Touched the Lord, Boundless Love, Won't it be wonderful there, When I wake up to sleep no more, and they finished with "Look for me at Jesus feet" I have some video of boundless love that i'll try to post to youtube Friday night featured - VictorySong, Pure Heart Trio, Jeff Treece Band, and Naomi and the Segos Victory song opened the friday night concert. VS is a trio out of valdosta, georgia. They have WONDERFUL HARMONY. Great singers and they have a great ministry. I was in and out of the concert hall during their set unfortunately. However, they have sound clips on their site http://www.victorysonggospel.com/ Pure Heart Trio- PHT is a group out of jacksonville, florida. Pure Heart has been singing for many years and are very popular in this southern region. A mixed trio of David Andrews, and Dusty and Lindsay Denmark, Pure heart mixes great classic southern gospel with a slight modern sound. They were definitely a fan favorite friday night, getting a a few standing ovations. Some of the songs that i was able to catch were: "endless well", "How great thou art/shout to the Lord", "Don't let me miss the glory". www.purehearttrio.com Jeff Treece Band - A great group with a heavy country sound. They are most known for their comedy songs, which the crowd loves. Jeff and the band really know how to connect to an audience. They had the crowd rolling, singing along, and having a great time! They have a nice fan base in the florida area. They sang favorites such as "Sneakin' Deacon", "The Man with the whiskers", "11:59", "God on the mountain (with jeff's peg impression)", "Wouldn't take nothing for my journey now". www.jefftreeceband.com Naomi and the Segos - WOW! They were the closer for the evening and they did not dissapoint. The segos are back with a fantastic lineup of Scott Spangler- (baritone/emcee) Naomi, and well the name fails me now singing tenor haha. They did all the classic sego hits and the crowd LOVED them. They ended with a grand finale of The segos and the jeff treece band playing "I'll put on a crown". WOW! they tore the house down. If you gauge crowd excitement by the number of people clapping, running and dancing then you had about a 10. haha The segos are back and will be going strong for a long time i'm sure. I will post the saturday evening review shortly

Saw the Hyssongs in Chattanooga Friday night. Really special family trio from Maine. Great singers and really super folks. Their specialty is that besides great singing, Dell, the father, plays trumpet and Richard, the son, plays trombone. They added some very special solos and instrumentals to several of their songs. They started with an instrumental of Majesty, Then sang, Praise, Everybody will be happy,He's all I Need, In The Garden and God Is There. Then after a few minutes relating to the crowd and telling funny stories Rchard did a neat almost dixieland version of When The Saints Go Marching In Next was their version of The King Is Coming which features both a trumpet and trombone solo (one of my favorite songs),God's Grace Is Sufficient, and God Bless The USA. They finished with a medley of Something About That Name,My Tribute, How Great Thou Art. The opening act for them was an 11 year old area girl named Mallory Ledford who is an unbelieveable talent. Her version of Four Days Lategave me glory bumps. All in all a great concert. I'll rate it eight hoppies.

Sunday evening I got the opportunity to see Singer/songwriter Phil Cross in a solo concert at Community Baptist Church in Rock Spring, GA. Wonderful evening. They started off with the church choir doing a 30 minute set including a couple the Phil wrote. On their last song Phil came up and did the solo with the choir. Phil Cross then sang, The Key, God Made Me, He's Already In Your Tomorrow, The Embrace Of Grace, When I Get Carried away and Heaven's Hero Mallory Ledford was in the crowd and Phil called her up to do a couple of songs. She's a smart girl and always has a CD of her sound tracks with her. The alter began filling on her 2nd song so she did another one. Phil came back doing an acapella version of Softly and Tenderly and the altar stayed full. He then sang Come Home(I hadn't heard that song before) and Learning to lean on Jesus Phil then gave his testimony about being a nobody when he was in high school but how God used him and last year when his high school has their 100 anniversary he was invited back to participate in the celebration and was selected as one of only 14 most noteworthy graduates of that school. he said 'm still just a nobody that used the gifts that God gave him for God's glory. All of us have some gift and please use it for the glory of God. Great Quotes of Phil, "Start doing something visible for the invisible One" and "God can do it all, but would prefer for us to do it powered by Him" He finished the concert with his classic Champion of Love Their might be some better pure vocalists out there than Phil (and he is very good) but there is no doubt that God has given him a very special gift of putting words together in songs and even when speaking. The Spirit of God was very moving that night, a special time that you didn't want to end, and for that reason alone I'd have to give this concert my best score of 10 hoppies.
