I went to see the Dove Brothers this past Sunday night in Thomasville, NC. I enjoyed them very much. I was very impressed with Jerry Martin on tenor. I was afraid that he was going to be too high and screechy for me but he blended very well. He has one of the highest ranges around and has learned when to go for it and when to pull back. I guess all of those years on the road have paid off. I was also glad to hear Mcray Dove in good voice. When he talks it always seems that he's losing his voice. Too many Didn't Rain and Get Away Jordan's will take a toll! David Hester is a great quartet bass and he knows how to work that condenser microphone. I was disappointed though when he took the lead on a song. His solo voice didn't appeal to me as compared to Mike Holcomb, Tim Duncan, Aaron McCune, or Jeff Chapman. Eric Dove did well on baritone but he was difficult to hear on some of his featured songs. He also had a pained expression on his face when he was singing. In the concert that lasted just over an hour I believed that they only stopped to talk three brief times. This reminded me of an Inspirations concert. Much better than a Kingdom Heirs or Gold City concert where it seems that they can't string more than 2 songs together. It also seemed to me that Jerry Kelso on the piano was trying way too hard to entertain. The comments above are just my thoughts and opinions and not meant to be hurtful in any way. I really enjoyed this concert and will go and see the Dove Brothers again when they are near.

pack, That's just the Dove Brothers for ya. I agree with everything you've said, and I've noticed all the same things you pointed out. You're right, though, they are plenty good, and I always make a point to see them when I can. McCray is a good man, too. I think he's for real. Not saying others aren't, just that he is forsure.

I and my wife both felt that McCray seemed very genuine as well kiutestia. I'm glad that the Dove Brothers have staying power and believe that they will be around for years to come. They pay homage to the roots of southern gospel as well as mix in new songs. A great combination!

A great combination! McCray attended EOU (Ed O'Neal University). He knows how it's properlly done. All five of the guys are great Christian Men. Hope they are around our area again soon.

See, folks, pack just proved that you can critique in a Christian manner without being obnoxiously critical, and have an opinion without being pompous. Thanks fo rthat, pack.

Thanks for the compliment. This was my first impromptu review. I sat down to write that I attended the concert (as the thread was meant for me to do) and I just kept typing. Critiquing someone is very difficult, especially on an email or message board. Things like tone can't be inferred and replies can get out of hand in a hurry (as we see on here occasionally). I'm sounding like an english teacher instead of the math teacher that I am. I better stop now. Thanks!

We (Bobby and Carol York, Dinana, Vera, JimC, Hubby and me) went to a dinner/concert last night. It was hosted by Bobby (thank you, Bobby!!!) and it was teriffic. The food and service were extremely good and Triumphant Quartet did their usual FINE JOB! I'm sure Dinana will be on to give more details later. Got a big hug from Scotty --- which is always nice. BUT.... he made faces at me from the stage during the time Eric Bennett was talking about doing a concert with another little group, Greater Vision, in Texas. Scotty was mouthing "who's that?" and shaking his head at me! For some reason, he thinks I'm a Greater Vision fan!

Everybody has their likes, favorites, etc. Had a couple of people tell me after it was over that they liked Triumphant the best. Most (I think about 3/4) of the people there had never heard Triumphant. They want them back again. As you say Dinana will be giving a complete run down of the concert. I too was surprised at the service that we were given even if I do go to Church there. I didn't ever think they would feed around 280 that quick. Eric was quick to adjust the songs to the older generation singing songs they liked.

Last night was the most enjoyable night I've had in a LONG time. EVERYTHING was perfect.....the food, the service, the company at the table, and Triumphant was as good as I've ever heard them. They seemed to really enjoy the crowd, and the crowd obviously loved them. I couldn't help but notice faces lighting up all over the room when Jeff hit the first few notes of Last Date. David was never better than he was last night, and Clayton brought the house down with How Great Thou Art. They closed the night with God Bless the USA, and I don't think there was a dry eye in the house. THANK YOU, Bobby and Carol, Donna and Gene, Dinana, Vera, and Nancy.

Bobby, and the rest of you that saw Triumphant last night, please let me know if this will happen again next year. If I had known about it we could have come. That was my last night off for a while.

Santa, the dinner will happen, probably November 19. Don't know whether they will or who they will have to entertain. Carol & myself sponsored Triumphant this year. Probably won't be possible for us to do it next year.

Last Friday night, I and some friends had a great time at the Booth Brothers concert. It is a rarity that top groups come to the Baton Rouge area, so this was a treat. They sang two sets, the first one was really long. The boys worked really hard to both entertain and minister, and I think they struck the right balance. I was really impressed with the baritone singing, whether it was Ronnie or Jim, it seemed to always have body and warmth. Their arrangements were really special. I knew most of the songs, one I had not heard before that I really liked was about a "secret room" we don't want anyone to go into. Great idea for a song. They also did a short acoustic set with friend Darryl (?) Toney that was different and enjoyable, especially Michael playing the bass (he said he only knew the one song). In our party of 10, the men sat on a pew in front of the women, who kept shushing us when we sang along. We really did try to keep it (singing along) at a minimum level (mostly humming). At the end of the concert, three elderly women sitting in front of us turned around and complimented our harmony, saying they enjoyed it very much. My wife says they were being sarcastic, but they seemed genuine to me!!!! One last thng, I was able to see what a difference a good venue makes. About a month ago, GV (whom I love) were here, but sang in a big rec hall, with bad acoustics and a crowd from a sponsoring church that was largely indifferent to them (lots of conversation and kids running up and down the metal bleachers). Even though I enjoyed them, it was not the best of them I had seen. Friday, the Booths were in a nice church setting, with an appreciative host congregation and good sound, so they shined by comparison. Good job guys, and thanks. zzzzzzzzzzzz
