I think the recommendation is three years in a row of negative results and then you can go every other year. Or something like that. Cervical cancer can be caused by other things. It is not an STD, although there is an STD (HPV) that makes it more likely for you to get cervical cancer. It's also one of the easiest to treat cancers if caught early enough. They'll also feel for abnormalities on the ovaries, and ovarian cancer is deadly because it is hard to catch. Many doctors also do a breast exam during that same appointment, so they're checking for things there too.

My opinion is that, especially as wives and moms, we need to get these things checked regularly so we can hopefully catch a problem early on if there is one. Will you strongly urge your husband to have prostate and colorectal exams when he is old enough? I will, and to me, it's the same thing. We need to take care of ourselves as best as we are able. We owe it to our families.

Off my soapbox now...

Kathryn, I lost all my pubic hair with my girls, but none of the hair on my head...with the boys, I had PP hair (on my head LOL) loss for A YEAR!...Seriously. I had two terrible bald spots on the front of my head...it was a good thing I started covering not long after Isaiah was born...
LOL

I only lost hair on my head, I had thought that I got lucky and was going to keep my hair but then around 3 months it started falling out. My hair gets really really thick when I'm pregnant though so it just went back to normal.

I lost hair for the first 3 months after having Hunter and I thought it would never stop.

Purejoy, at my 6 week post pardum check up I was dreading the pelvic exam. But, to my surprise it was the easiest exam I had up to that point and did not hurt one bit. All my other yearly exams had prior were very uncomfortable with me tensing up, just horrible. But, that exam and my yearly early this year were a breeze and they are not an issue anymore.

I agree with Donna! I will go every year for my yearly appointment regardless of what the guidelines suggest. I owe it to my family and to myself to take every precaution necessary to remain healthy. I dread going just because who wants to sit naked in a paper gown and have someone you don't know well examining you...NO ONE! But, when the time comes for hubby to begin the fun little yearly visits men have he will have no excuse because I do mine.

Re: hair loss ... mine falls out for a good 18 months after having a child. (I'm usually pregnant again right around that 18 month mark). Nine months later it starts falling out again.

And regarding PP bleeding, this time around was my shortest ever, it was just shy of 2 weeks of the heavier stuff, then a week of light, then a week of spotting. With my others, it could go 16 weeks or more of HEAVY (to the point of going to the ER for meds to slow it down so I wouldn't require transfusion)

I don't mind paps, really I don't. After having a baby, man, paps are a breeze. It's just that, well, they cost money. But we have insurance so, it's not a big deal.
