Hehehe.

So....does anyone here follow along with the 40 days of repentance that leads to Rosh Hashanah? I think that is a wonderful thing for Gentiles to adopt don't you think? Just imagine the things we can teach our children. A far better way to honor G-d, repent of our sins and prevent sin rather than a New Year resolution or quick "I'm sorry."

I have the oddest thing happen. Every year, in Autumn, G-d starts pointing out things in my life that need work, and invariably, I will check the calendar and find that it is sometime near Elul. This year, He started early on me. His pointing things out and my necessary repentance started a few days ago.

I must have a Whole Lot to work on this time.

But seriously, maybe I do. I love this time of the year leading up to Yom Kippur.

I don't know what has been written, that may possibly be found on the Internet, but I know that He sure leads me through a lot of personal repairs every year. It makes some things hard, but I love it. Bless G-d!

What would I have to repent for? If any! lol.

Well, I can start by repenting of telling everyone
(after my wife gives her testimony) ---- and, then
she married the perfect man! She always responds
with, "You have to realize this man has a dry sense
of humor."

but, repent for truth? lol.

Okay, I'm repenting.

****************************************

Well, we've started a couple weeks ago teaching
about the "Blood of the Lamb and the word of testimony"
that overcomes. Everyone has been giving their testimony.
On gentleman in his 70's said this was really good for him
because he has never given his testimony. Now, he realizes
it's more important outside the church than inside the church.

So, seems to be having a positive influence.

We concluded three groups of people from out little study.

People who "talk the talk, but don't walk the walk."
People who "walk the walk, but don't talk the talk."
And those who "talk the talk, and walk the walk."

The Jewish Country Club

O'Brien kept nudging Cohen to let him play at his Jewish Country Club. Cohen told him that only Jews could play golf there.

He drove him crazy for months and he finally gave in but warned him that if anyone asked, his name was Goldberg. If asked what his occupation was, he was a manufacturer. O'Brien asked what kind of a manufacturer should he be and he told him to say that he made tallis.

Sure enough, after playing 18 holes, he's approached by one of the members. He said that he hadn't seen him before and asked his name.

He replied, "My name is Goldberg."

"What do you do for a living, Mr. Goldberg?"

He replies, "I'm a manufacturer."

"What do you manufacture?"

"I make tallises."

"You know, I always wanted to know what the Hebrew letters on the neck of the tallis meant. Can you tell me?"

O'Brien said, "to tell the truth, I only make the sleeves".

Revelation, or, Imagination?

We are reading Romans after reading Acts.
As you read you are reminded of other places you've read.
That being said,

Many think Paul's "thorn in the flesh" was an optical condition.
I think it was the Judaizers that plagued his steps.

But, I'm beginning to wonder if the experience at the Road to Damascus
was in deed the infliction in Paul's eyes?

He was blinded for three days after seeing Yeshua and getting his plan
for the rest of his life. Through Acts Paul is giving his "testimony" wherever
he goes. About this experience he had and that Yeshua in fact was the Messiah.

Paul told others that they were so compassionate that if it were possible, they
would pluck out their own eyes and give them to Paul.

I'm wondering that even though the scales fell from his eyes and vision restored
that possibly and infliction from the experience was still with Paul and was very
visible as he would proclaim the Gospel and his testimony?

Seems to put a different slant to it if you can imagine Paul telling you about the
bright light that blinded him all the while you're looking into the eyes that were
affected and possibly the physical marks left by it.

So, is my imagination running away with me? LOL.

We were studying Romans 7:1-6 last night.
I'm curious to how others would expound on this
holding that this portion has been taking as stand alone
in many teachings, but it is actually a continuation of Chapter Six.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Rom 7:1 ¶ Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

Rom 7:2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to [her] husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of [her] husband.

Rom 7:3 So then if, while [her] husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

Rom 7:4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, [even] to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Rom 7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

Rom 7:6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not [in] the oldness of the letter.

NOTE: We were using the Power New Testament so the wording was different.
The above is KJV

Amish Jew

A woman is riding a bus in the Midwest, when a man gets on the bus and sits down next to her. He's wearing a black hat, long black coat, black slacks and shoes, and he has a long curly dark beard.

The woman looks at him disgustedly. "Jews like you," she hisses at him.

He looks up at her, puzzled, and says, "I beg your pardon, madam?"

She says, "Look at you. All in black, a beard, never take off your hat! It's Jews like you that give the rest of us a bad name."

He says calmly, "I beg your pardon, madam, but I am not Jewish. I'm Amish."

The woman looks back and smiles, "How nice. You've kept your customs."

Shalom all,
stopped in to update you on life in these here parts! Lap, like those quipts of humor, keep them coming. As for Rom 7:1-6 not in a position to postulate at the moment..
In brief, with God's help doing my part to repare the world via the general faith forum,
placing some Messiah Magazines from FFOZ in local public office reception areas, have a couple folks interested in the Messianic study group to start some time in January 09, and wondering if anyone can tell me where I can hear a recording of a "typical" messianic service for Shavuot (archived perhaps).
I am planning to do a spring concert from the keyboard in my area (lower Mich).
The first half will be standards and such, and the second half will be faith-oriented and want to work in some light teaching about the Spring feast, and maybe a couple songs appropriate to Shavuot, need help on
that though!
Glad this thread is still here and think of you folk frequently.
As for ELUL, the Voice of the Lord Devo at studylight.org is proving to be a great resource for my learning of Hebraic roots and such. I don't know that one can read archived devotions only that day's entry.
Meantime,
Shalom Shabbat!

I brought my Power New Testament to work so thought I'd post Romans 7:1-6
from it to see if it rings any bells.

An Analogy from Marriage
7:1 Or are you ignorant, brothers, the fact is I am speaking for those who
know Torah, that the Torah rules the man for as long a time as he would live?

7:2 For the married woman is bound to the living husband by Torah:
but if the husband would die, she is released from her husband by the Torah.

7:3 Consequently then while the husband is living will she not be called an
adulteress if she would become a wife to another husband: but if her husband
would die, she is set free by the Torah, she is not an adulteress when she
becomes a wife to another husband.

7:4 So then, my brothers, you also died to legalism through the body of the Messiah,
now you belong to another, to the One Who has been raised from the dead, so that
we would bear fruit for God.

7:5 For when we were in the flesh, the passions of the sins, those through legalism,
were working in our members so that we would bear fruit in death:

7:6 but now we have been released from legalism, since we died to that by which
we were bound, so that we serve in newness of spirit and not in oldness of letter.

Thought I'd stop by and see how things are going over here now that things have calmed down a little in the bible and doctrine forums. I think I finally wore them down. So much for "People in your camp never answer the questions."

Speaking of camping, has anyone got their long johns out of moth balls for Sukkot yet, or are you waiting for the trumpets to blow and scurry around making last minute preparations?

I just got my pool folded up and plan on putting tarps around the enclosure this year.

Don't flatter yourself because, as usual, you seem to have misinterpreted things.

When my dad was in the nursing home after a severe stroke, he had a room mate that seemed very lucid and I discussed a number of topics with him. After a few visits, it became quite obvious that the man had more than a few loos e screws. Once I realized that talking to him was as productive as discussing politics with a 3 year old, I limited conversations with him to nothing deeper than, "Good morning, Mr. Muddledhead." (Not his real name, just an alias that popped into my mind for no apparent reason.)

With that said, "Good morning, Mr. Bluethread."

We just put the solar blanket on our pool.
Will have to get a new cover as the other was
so ragged that I threw it on the burn pile. It is now grommets in a ash heap.

I don't know about the long johns, but I know I will definitely have a few more
blankets. lol.
Last year is was very chilly at night too. Expect it to be even more so this year.
My daughter loves it anyway as it's the only time dad takes her "camping." lol.

"Good morning, Mr. JimboFletch."

I looked for an appropriate marriage joke.
But this was all I could find. lol.

quote:

Venomous Wife

Abe goes to see his Rabbi.

"Rabbi, something terrible is happening and I have to talk to you about it."

The Rabbi asked, "What's wrong, Abe?"

Abe replied, "My wife is poisoning me."

The Rabbi was very surprised by this and asks, "How can that be?"

Abe then pleads, "I'm telling you, I'm certain she's poisoning me, what should I do?"

The Rabbi then offers, "Tell you what. Let me talk to her, I'll see what I can find out and I'll let you know."

A week later the Rabbi calls Abe and says, "Well, I spoke to your wife. I spoke to her on the phone for three hours. You want my advice?"

Abe anxiously says, "Yes."

"Take the poison," says the Rabbi.

The Real Mother (in law)

A Jewish town had a shortage of men for wedding purposes, so they had to import men from other towns.

One day a groom-to-be arrived on a train, and two mother-in-laws-to-be were waiting for him, each claiming ownership on him.

A wise old rabbi was called to solve the problem.

After a few minutes of thought, he said: "If this is the situation, you both want the groom, we'll cut him in half and give each one of you half of him."

To this replied one woman: "If that's the case, give him to the other woman."

The rabbi said: "Do that. The one willing to cut him in half, is the real mother-in-law!"

Note: See 1 Kings 3:16-28 for the allusion.

Since you are listening in, I was not refering to changing minds, but moving the discussion away from generalizations, long winded sermons and personal attacks to reasoned point by point dialogue. But, I guess your correct. Some people will always find an opportunity to take things personnally.
