I found my sister is pregnant so I am going to start on a baby blanket so I can get it done before the shower. I need a few months to work on it..so if anyone has any decent patterns that aren't too hard . I can do basic knits and crochet or counted cross stitch.

I have tried knitting, and it was difficult for me. I tried teaching myself with a book, so that may explain why. Right now I'm teaching myself to crochet and it's going much better. I've got the single crochet stitch down! I would like to sign up for a class or maybe watch some videos online. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Knit and crochet all the time, it's my relaxation and a get time to get some praying done. Lately my older grandchildren are starting families so I've been doing baby shawls, sweaters and bonnets.

ORIGINAL: Miss Giggles I found my sister is pregnant so I am going to start on a baby blanket so I can get it done before the shower. I need a few months to work on it..so if anyone has any decent patterns that aren't too hard . I can do basic knits and crochet or counted cross stitch. I have made several baby blankets (crochet) in a matter of hours using super bulky yarn (Red Heart "Clouds", or Yarn Bee "Soft Illusion" are examples): I crochet a chain in multiples of 6 until it is the desired width of the piece (or slightly more) plus 2 more ch for ending and turning. R1: sc in 2nd chain from hook, (skip 2 ch work open shell in next ch, skip 2 ch sc in next ch) repeat ()across. R2: Ch 4 turn, dc in same st, sc in center dc of open shell, (work open shell in next sc, sc in center dc of open shell) across to last shell, end with with dc, ch1, dc in last sc. ch1 turn R3: sc in last dc, (work open shell in next sc, sc in center dc of open shell) across, to end, work open shell in next sc, sc in 3rd ch of beginning chain. Repeat rows 2-3 until work is desired length. End with row 2. Open shell: work in the specified stitch: dc, ch1, dc, ch1, dc These are beautiful, thick and cuddly. They are good for a baby to lay on on the floor or for a parent to wrap the child in when holding it. They should not be used for a baby in a crib due to the possibility of smothering. You can use this same pattern with any size yarn; for finer yarns, substitute a shell (5 dc in the specified stitch) instead of an open shell. I've used baby fingering yarn and this pattern to make a receiving blanket, worsted-weight yarn and many colors for another look.

I just finished a toddler sweater made to match a stuffed "snowman" toy for a friend's new baby (both hand-machine knit w/some crochet). I had wanted the sweater to start out as a snuggly, that could convert to a sweater when the baby was older, but did not have time to make it.

how cute!! i can only make afghans it sounds so adorbalbe. Thank you. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I had to kind of design the sweater myself by modifying about three other patterns. I have always made a lot of afghans--nearly everyone in my (very large) extended family, except me, has an afghan that I made--and that includes xh, xss, xsd, xbil, xnil. I still have a nephew, great-nephew, and great-niece that do not have afghans--in the case of the last two, they are finished, just not mailed, and I'm quilting the afghan for the nephew...my first try at quilting so I'm hoping it turns out.

Well i just started crocheting recently the church i go to has a group called "by loving hands" and they held a class for anyone who wanted to learn to crochet or knit. So i am now happily making crocked scraves for people on my Christmas list... Similing* i finished my first one and donated it back to the church the group "by loving hands" who find people who are in need of such items. hopefully my projects will get better and my crocheting talent (hehe) will blossom.

That is so cool. Welcome to the wonderful world of needle arts...aka obsession with anything yarn... I think it is great that you donated back to the group for people in need. The more you work with the hook, the better you will get. And I'm sure that those who receive your efforts will love what you do because it is made with loving hands.

That's awesome. My craft group and I used to knit strips that would be sewn together and given to people in need. I haven't been able to lately, but I'm going to be knitting scarves for people in need. It's spring here, but it will give me plenty of time to get things knitted before our winter. I don't have a lack of yarn to do it with.

We have a prayer shawl ministry at church. Some ladies knit or crochet shawls to be given to those that are in the hospital or have had a death in the family or have gotten a divorce. Really anyone who has a loss or sickness or crisis. The ladies pray while making the shawls that whoever receives them will know that they are loved and cared for and that they will have healing and comfort and peace. It is a lovely ministry.

The department I work in at the university is sending a care box to to a troop of soldiers in Afghanistan. I am trying to make some hats (under helmet type), scarves, etc. to send (VERY little time) I've found a few patterns, I'd like to find a few others if possible. I prefer crochet or patterns that work with the Bond Ultimate Sweater Machine; I can knit, but if I tried to hand knit this stuff, it would be next year before I finished the first one. Suggestions for patterns welcome. Thanks.

I love to crochet. Currently I am making an afghan, which I plan to give to my brother. I've also made scarves and ponchos.

My neighbor and I made 15 hats to send to the troop...(she made 11, I made 4). I'm hoping to make a couple of other things between now and Monday when everything is mailed out, but not sure I will have time. And I want to make something for a single mom I just met--she has three little children b5,2-g3...Since her furnace is causing trouble I wanted to make blankets for at least the children...but again, don't know how I'll find time since I have less than a week...and more to do than I can finish now without adding any more.

Most recent project: Crochet decorations (mostly borders and handles) on gift bags--teamed these with pretty 'Christmas' stickers in matching colors.
