I'm nowhere near ready to even think about weaning. I have a feeling this one will be hard for me emotionally. But maybe not...trying not to think about it too much, honestly. And just enjoy today with my peanut.

No where near there but I think I will find a sense of accomplishment when Isaac is weaned, like I've made it, accomplished a goal. KWIM? On that front our breastfeeding seems to be going well, Isaac only gets one bottle a day, and thats when I am not there and at work. He usually goes all weekend without any bottles and does just fine. I really think part of his fussing early on was an over stimulation thing, he gets over stimulated easy because he's a preemie and I am sure nursing was out of his comfort zone (at that time). I'm not even pumping much these days, I should be I guess to up my supply but he usually wont allow time for it, he likes to nurse every hour or so all afternoon, I think its just because he wants to cuddle, he'll nurse just a few minutes then go to sleeping grinning. Nighttime is a dream...he'll eat, go back to bed, and right to sleep. No pumping, heating bottles, etc. AND his spitting up is way better.

Oh yeah.....you will SOOOO feel like that, Erin. I think that feeling occurs a lot when moms have had difficulties nursing. Like the iMan being in NICU for so long, and then I was working odd hours and had trouble nursing Timmy. I really feel acomplished. Jennifer, did you help her wean, or did she just stop asking? It's tough, but it's nice at the same time.

I am doing parent and child led weaning... Over the summer I cut her back to just nap and bedtime, just telling her no at other times. In August I started limiting her time- we went from as long as she wanted to the duration of her bed time song, then, just one verse of the song (led by me). Since then, she has continued to shorten things on her own- lately, it is 2-3 sucks 90% of the time, so it is more of a hug or kiss type action for her at this point than anything nutritional (plus, I now have just colostrum, so that might be part of it). At this point, I did let her nurse last night as she was quite insistent (if she asks now, I say, "Let's sing first" and she usually forgets, but last night she kept asking, so I just let her) for the past several days, she will be insistent, then not bother for a few days (2-3) then be insistent again- since it is going away more and more and she is doing it herself, I am letting her continue to lead for now. I will probably put my foot down around Christmas (just because I would rather there not be jealousy issues with the new baby and I don't want her to start nursing *more* at that point). I should also note that she turned 2 in October, and I am due in early January with #3. Also, she will go to sleep for other people if I am not around, so it really isn't a "need" anymore for her- I really think she she's it as affection... As I said, some days I feel great, and others I just want to cry that she doesn't need it anymore- such is life as a mom...

I'm also due in early January, and I really hate to admit this, but I almost feel a sense of dread about nursing again. Everyone here at CW seems to love it so much, and I ... didn't. I didn't hate it; it wasn't awful by any means, and we had a very good nursing relationship. But every time I think about nursing or read about someone else nursing ... part of me wants to button up my shirt and say "No, my body, stay away." This poor baby inside of me, she doesn't deserve that. I feel so horrible for feeling this way, and I don't understand why. When the baby comes, I'll nurse, because I'm her mom and it's my duty. I just hope I can do so with a cheerful spirit, or at least come to an understanding of why I feel the way I do. It's a genuine puzzle to me. And all of you seem to love nursing so much... I wish I felt the same way.

ORIGINAL: SweetLittleErin I nurse on demand, but its roughly every 2-3 hours. He's supposed to get meds every three hours so we loosely use that schedule that we came home from the hospital with, but if he wants to eat, he gets to. He has 8-10 wet diapers a day and has 3 or 4 poopy diapers. Right now he's only getting one bottle a day while I'm at work. based on the number of diapers...he is doing great....he is well nourished and hydrated. You are doing a great job mama !

{{{{Donna}}}} {{{{Ruth}}}} In the early days, I do love nursing. It ends up being my excuse to lie down and rest. But even though I love that I can nurse my babies and wholeheartedly want them to nurse as long as possible doesn't mean I don't have those "Oh, blah" days as well. At 1 1/2 years, at this point I am mostly doing it for the baby, not for me. I could take it or leave it, honestly. I truly thought Biruk was weaning a while back but apparently not. The other two just said "No" around 18 months and were done. If anything, Biruk has upped his nursing. This is new for me, having one who can ask for it, and having one who's old enough to be told no, not now. Especially in church--for a couple of weeks he'd climb up on my lap and try to pull open my shirt.

Maggie, are you still nursing Biruk? If not, do you have a pump? I think nursing/pumping with massaging is the only way to get it out.

ORIGINAL: BeeLuvsAva She will be 8 weeks on monday. She is eating just a little bit more today but still not a lot at all. She won't really nurse at all, it's so random I have no clue what is wrong, I called her doctor today, and the doctor said to keep trying to nurse, and feed her a bottle, and if it does not improve on monday I need to bring her in. B Is she tongue tied? Can she stick her tongue past her lips when she's crying or rooting? Have you been supplementing a lot with formula? Have you contacted a lactation specialist? her tongue seems to be fine, I just checked. I don't EVER use formula, I only used it 2 days, and that was a few weeks ago. No I have not contacted a lactation specialist yet.
